CROATIA OFFERS PEACE PLAN TO SERB REBELS - dateline July 31 Zagreb - In
an effort to avert all-out civil war, the Yugoslav republic of Croatia has
drawn UP a peace plan offering its Serb minority key concessions it had
sought, including home rule, control over the local police and greater
political power..... it remained unclear whether the Serb rebels, who have
steadily wrested territory from the Croatian forces in recent weeks would
accept the deal. "They expect to win on the battlefield ... they won't
accept any negotiation."..... The more outspoken Serbs in Croatia and the
Serb republic have said they will accept nothing less than a redrawing of
Yugoslavia's borders. .... Croatia's peace efforts come against the
backdrop of a Serb offensive particularly in the Krajina region. In the
last two weeks, Croatian defenders have been forced to relinquish village
after village to the Serb guerrillas...
EUROPEANS TRY TO EASE CROATIA CRISIS - dateline July 31 Paris - Having
helped negotiate a cease-fire in Slovenia this month, the European
Community now hopes to bring an end to the fighting in Croatia without
having to assume the risks of sending a peace keeping mission to
Yugoslavia. Many European officials believe that even if Yugoslavia
sought an international peacekeeping force, the Soviet Union might block
such a move for fear of setting a precedent of foreign involvement at a
time when it is wrestling with it's own rebel republics from the Baltic to
the Ukraine

GUNMAN KILL 6 LITHUANIAN BORDER GUARDS - dateline July 31 Vilnius - Six

identity of the attackers was not known. The customs stations, symbols of
Lithuania's claim to independence from the Soviet Union, have been
frequent targets of violent raids by Soviet troops and "black beret"
police units loyal to Moscow. Soviet Union's TASS announced that the USSR
will not sit idle while any foreign intervention of forces in it's sphere

today for wider international pressure to bring peace to the troubled
Balkan nation... while France and other community members urged that a
Western European buffer force be sent to separate the warring Yugoslav
factions.... Some European officials fear that since many people of
Hungarian and Albanian descent live in Yugoslavia, a full scale war could
spread to other nations as they seek to protect their minorities in
Yugoslavia.... A British official said that the security council might
explore ways to intervene if the fighting intensifies and threatens other

September 9 - Monday 0500 - Strait of Gibraltar - CV Independence -
Captain Charles "Razzia" Rouhier just phoned the bridge and gave the orders for a 24 hour general quarters watch to be set. As he walked to the staff conference room. He was thinking to himself. "How was the old
Independence going to get through this one. We were on our way to the yard for the annual turndown and overhaul ( me to retirement ) while other ships of the group were headed for SIMMA in Newport. The Independence was only
loaded with various aircraft being ferried back to the states for refitting or retirement... we don't even have a full wing on board... but fate has dealt us a new hand and mission!". As Charles Rouhier entered the darkened
staff room he noticed that everybody was engrossed in the S-2s brief, so he signaled his XO LTCMDR Allen "Wombat" Wotherspoon ( Wombat handle came from his infamous furrowing out Iraqi tanks in Desert Shield/Desert Storm conflict)
to forestall formalities and took a seat in the last row without anybody noticing. Razzia saw a projection map on the large wall screen showing USSR broken into it's ethnic republic boundaries, and how intensely his
officers were listening to Ed "Sereno" Winsor the S-2... indicating that they were ready to tackle their mission... it made Captain Rouhier feel good.
Ed Winsor paused briefly to signal Rouhier that he acknowledges his presence and thanks for not disturbing his brief; As large projected maps of Russia, Mideast and Mediterranean flashed up behind him. Sereno.. as he
preferred to be called... continued; "NSA has indicated that the Russian threat in the Med. is not a strong one. Russia itself is split in two and a good number of the hard line breakaway forces code named "Goblin" are engaged
with the reformist forces "Yankee" of the Russian republic approximately along the 55th parallel to the Ural mountains. The greatest threat of Goblin is the massive forces of the Muslim republics spreading south to join forces
with the Iranians, Syrians and Iraqis; to conquer the Arab states and control the oil fields of the Mideast and destroy Israel. The hard line breakaway government has set up in Kiev and is controlled by the Ukrainian elite who
were the original Russian polity. They bombed the Supreme Soviet as they were to vote for the new democratic federated republic plan pushed by Gorbachev and Yelstin. Both were killed in the attack along with most of
the elected Peoples Deputies. They aligned with the Turkic and Muslim republics promising them rule over Turkey and the Mideast. This will give them control over the rich agricultural and industrial areas: along with the
control over of the worlds oil supply. This will give them a potent nation to continue on with the communist revolution to conquer the world."
The room is quiet and stuffy from all the intense concentration as the projection screen explodes with a close up of the eastern Mediterranean area including the Black Sea . The map dwarfs Sereno... as he continues;
"Goblin has the Black Sea fleet under his control and approximately 70% of the air force and 45% of the army. The fleet has broken out into the Med and controls the eastern areas including the Adriatic Sea; after destroying
the German fleet and part of the Italian fleet which was deployed at the time. They did this under the ploy of supporting the communist Yugoslav Army after the Germans landed forces in Zagreb. Along the way they
coordinate with paratroop drops and took control of Cigli, Turkey and Patrai, Greece. This gives air cover for the complete Black Sea fleet breakout. Their initial fleet breakout has gone into the Adriatic Sea and
landed troops along with more coordinate paratroop drops taking control of Sibenik and Rijeka/Yugoslavia along with Venice/Italy. Goblin has the Croatian, German and Hungarians surrounded. It is expected that they will
advance once they have consolidated and gotten their air assets in place. The Goblin air force includes all types of platforms since they control 70% of the Russian original air force. You can expect any type of threat from them. "
Everybody squints and rubs their eyes as the projection screen blanks out and the overhead day lights comes back on. Sereno moves back to the lectern and gives a final review.... "Gentlemen; Goblin right now is
consolidating his positions on the Med front.... ferrying massive amounts of supplies and bringing in plenty of air assets to protect his flank. To our advantage Goblin has very little Intel due to the fact many of the
facilities were in the hands of Yankee... and much of that was destroyed in the bombing of Moscow and the Kremlin. He does not know what is out there as a threat except what he can find with his air patrols and
submarine forces. So expect plenty of forward patrols in the air and under the surface. Most of the fighting between Yankee and Goblin has been done without much forward Intel and so the fighting is close...
slow... and fierce. On his eastern fronts through the Mideast he is advancing very fast but with stiff resistance. You now have everything as I know it... good luck my friends!"
Captain Wotherspoon swiftly took Sereno's place. "People!!!... as of 0500 we have been put on 24 hour general quarters watch. Our mission is code named "Kangaroo" has began. We have been given the privilege of
spearheading the Allied counter offensive to outflank Goblin's western attack! Our mission objectives are two. One we will advance into the eastern Med and stop the Black Sea fleet breakout then enter the
Adriatic Sea and land the marines at Rijeka, Yugoslavia. The Italian fleet out of Brindisi port will run interference for us till we get on station. We will secure this port to off load supplies and start a relief column to
the besieged Germans in Zegreb. This beach head will be the staging point for the southern pincher drive into the Ukraine and onto Kiev. This will in effect split the Goblin front into two. The objective is to isolate Kiev
and besiege their political and military center from their Muslim fiends in the East. Our second objective is to draw in their air force draining it from the other fronts.... thus weakening them.... and allowing our forces
to advance at the other fronts. It is hoped that this will break the back of Goblin and force him to surrender. Our orders are not to engage in hostile activities which will bring other parties into the fight and
expand the front we have to fight on. However we have the right to defend ourselves as needed. The Med is full of merchant ships so be careful. We are not to fire on any merchant ship of any kind unless fired upon first.
Gentlemen you are dismissed and may god be with you.!!"
